Tell us a little bit about yourself
I have three kids (all girls) aged 9, 10 and 11. When I was 21, a fortune teller predicted I would have 3 girls that would be close in age. Accurate, but spooky!
I also have a mangy, rescue dog named Fancy. She’s my best friend and is always with me while I work.
Fun fact that no one might not know about you
My grandparents were lawyers in a small town – Wenatchee, Washington – which was home to a youth circus. They would set up their circus practice ground in my grandparents’ backyard. They’d get ready there all year and travel the west coast in the summer performing. My dad and his three sisters all performed high wire, trapeze, clowns etc. When I was young, my dad taught me how to eat fire! 🔥
These days, there’s no fire eating. In my spare time, I like to ride motorcycles. I like listening to records and reading old detective novels (Dashiell Hammett is one of my favorites and you can’t go wrong with The Maltese Falcon).
When did you start in LegalTech?
I started in LegalTech 5 years ago at NetDocuments. I kicked off the Corporate Legal Department space for NetDocuments and grew it exponentially – year over year. I focused on the pain points specific to corporate legal departments and understanding how, where and when document management would fit into each individual company’s needs and their legal technology stack.
What do you love about LegalTech?
I love the community and building relationships across the ecosystem. People want to learn from each other and lean on each other for support and knowledge - it’s a shared experience. I’ve never been in an industry before where you can make such deep connections. Once you’re in LegalTech, you will never leave!
What do you love to see in a successful in-house legal team?
I love it when in-house legal teams collaborate – it's the hallmark of a really successful team. You can have great people and a great organization, but it’s the wild wild west. People don’t know what is happening and who’s doing what. The great, successful projects are the ones where people are working closely with the vendor and bring in the right people from around their organization to make it a collaborative effort to solve the problem.
Why work at Xakia?
From the minute I met Jodie, Anne and Brandon at legal events, I loved the people and the company. I would find myself continually spending time with the Xakia team. Once I understood the culture and what Xakia stood for, the moment the opportunity came up – I jumped at it! No second thoughts about it – I knew, those are the people I want to go to battle with, so let’s do it!
I can’t wait to work with in-house legal teams and help them achieve their business goals with a better matter management solution.
