I have three kids (all girls) aged 9, 10 and 11. When I was 21, a fortune teller predicted I would have 3 girls that would be close in age. Accurate, but spooky!
I also have a mangy, rescue dog named Fancy. She’s my best friend and is always with me while I work.
My grandparents were lawyers in a small town – Wenatchee, Washington – which was home to a youth circus. They would set up their circus practice ground in my grandparents’ backyard. They’d get ready there all year and travel the west coast in the summer performing. My dad and his three sisters all performed high wire, trapeze, clowns etc. When I was young, my dad taught me how to eat fire! 🔥
These days, there’s no fire eating. In my spare time, I like to ride motorcycles. I like listening to records and reading old detective novels (Dashiell Hammett is one of my favorites and you can’t go wrong with The Maltese Falcon).
I started in LegalTech 5 years ago at NetDocuments. I kicked off the Corporate Legal Department space for NetDocuments and grew it exponentially – year over year. I focused on the pain points specific to corporate legal departments and understanding how, where and when document management would fit into each individual company’s needs and their legal technology stack.
I love the community and building relationships across the ecosystem. People want to learn from each other and lean on each other for support and knowledge - it’s a shared experience. I’ve never been in an industry before where you can make such deep connections. Once you’re in LegalTech, you will never leave!
I love it when in-house legal teams collaborate – it's the hallmark of a really successful team. You can have great people and a great organization, but it’s the wild wild west. People don’t know what is happening and who’s doing what. The great, successful projects are the ones where people are working closely with the vendor and bring in the right people from around their organization to make it a collaborative effort to solve the problem.
